Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade, former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, was a true follower of the revolutionary thoughts and ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He played a significant role in the movement for social transformation and dedicated his entire life to the upliftment of the Dalit, oppressed, and underprivileged sections of society. Social justice, equality, fraternity, and the spread of education were the guiding principles of his life and work. Through his tireless efforts, the historic Dhamma Deeksha Ceremony was organized at Chandrapur on 16th October 1956. On this historic occasion, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar administered Buddhism to nearly three lakh followers. This landmark event became a significant milestone in social, cultural, and spiritual transformation. To preserve the sacred memories and ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and to work for the welfare of society, Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade established the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Society in 1967. Under the aegis of this society, Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce and Science was established in 1970. Through this institution, students from Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts were provided with valuable opportunities for higher education. Along with education, a Dhamma Centre was also established at Chandrapur Deekshabhoomi for the propagation and promotion of the teachings of Lord Buddha. The institution has continuously worked towards spreading the values of equality, compassion, and humanity in society. The contribution and vision of Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade continue to inspire generations even today. His ideals, dedication, and commitment to social upliftment remain alive in every activity and initiative of the institution.
