Society

Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Chandrapur is run by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Society, Chandrapur. This Society was formed on 21st June 1970 by Late Bar. Rajbhau Khobragade. The College is situated on the sacred "Deeksha Bhoomi" in the heart of Chandrapur city where about 3 lac followers of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar converted to Buddhism on 16th Oct 1956. The main objective of forming this Society was to educate the Bahujan Samaj, which was denied the right of education for ages. The students of this college are practically implanting the slogan of "Shika, Sanghatit Vha, Sangarsh Kara" in their minds and feel enriched. The society is trying hard to live up to the principles of Dr. Ambedkar.

The present President of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Society, Hon`ble Arun Ghotekar, is striving hard for the intellectual and spiritual upliftment of the Bahujan Samaj students. The society organizes two-day programme on 15th & 16th October every year at "Deeksha Bhoomi". On this auspicious occasion, intellectuals and Buddhist monks from home and abroad give spiritual guidance to lacs of devotees.

The devotees get inspiration from the teachings of Lord Buddha and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. All the members of the Society, Principal and Staff of the college work in unison to make the programme successful.

The staff and students participate in the organization, planning and execution of Annual Dhamma Chhakra Anuvartan celebrations on 15th and 16th October every year.

College

Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce and Science was established on 21st June 1970 and is run by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Society, Chandrapur. The college was accorded a Buddhist religious Minority Status in 2012. It is situated in the heart of Chandrapur, known as the city of "Black gold". The founder member of this college, Late Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade was the Vice- President of Rajya Sabha in 1960. The primary aim of establishing this college is to eradicate illiteracy among Bhahujan Samaj. The college mainly caters to SC/ST/NT and other backward category students from rural and tribal areas. The college has a vast campus with facilities like boys hostel, girls hostel, spacious playground, gym, sports facility, canteen, auditorium, library, laboratories, Dr. Ambedkar study centre, NCC, NSS, Career Guidance Cell and Women's Cell. The college has Arts, Commerce and Science faculties and PG courses in English, Marathi, Economics, Political Science, History, Sociology, Geography and Commerce. It also successfully runs PG courses in Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Maths and Chemistry.

The Junior Wing of the college has Arts, Commerce and Science. It also runs higher secondary certificate vocational courses. The college functions efficiently under the guidance of the present Principal Dr. Rajesh Dahegaonkar. The college has efficient and scholarly teaching staff. The teaching and the non-teaching staff work for the betterment of the students.

The college which started with just 420 students has now over 4500 students studying in various courses. The dream of founder members seems to have been fulfilled.

Founder

Every institution in the world, however, small or big it may be, has been the result of a vision of its founder members. The visionary who laid the foundation of this institution was a great philanthropist and the torch-bearer of gigantic social revolution in the country. Late Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade, following the footsteps of his mentor, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar founded Dr. Ambedkar college on Deeksha Bhoomi on 21st June, 1970. Now, the college stands majestically on the sacred place known as 'Deeksha Bhoomi'. It had its unique opportunity to be blessed by the solemn presence of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on 16th Oct. 1956 wherein about three lacs of the downtrodden and oppressed people were initiated into the Buddhist fold.

Late Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade became the Vice-President of Rajaya Sabha in 1960. He had a purpose to impart high quality education and to create employable graduates. He founded the college to serve especially the needy and the poor Bahujan Samaj students with an intention to eliminate unemployment to the maximum extent and make them assets of tomorrow. His commitment to Bahujan Samaj makes him as an extraordinary personality.

President

After the sad demise of the founder president Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade, his mantle fell on Hon'ble Shyam Khobragade and Hon'ble Girish Khobragade respectively. During their tenure, the college saw advancement towards growth and progress.

Today, the president of the society is Hon`ble Arun Ghotekar. In the last decade, Arun Ghotekar has stood witness to the immense growth of Dr. Ambedkar college and emerged as its inspiration. His commitment, hard work and driving force made the institution stand at the threshold of multilayered growth and phenomenal expansion. Under his dynamic leadership the institution is developing steadily. Arun Ghotekar's thought and personality are influenced and chiselled by the ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. As such the future of this institution is safe, secured and bright in his hands.

Principal

The present Principal Dr. Rajesh R. Dahegaonkar is a committed personality. His thoughts and personality are influenced by the ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He has been awarded Ph. D. on his thesis "The Investigation of Fossil - Flora" by Nagpur University in the year 2003. His efforts saw the introduction of P.G courses in science subjects in the college. He also took efforts to establish the 'Botanical Research Centre' to promote research and development activities among faculties and research scholars in Life Sciences.

Dr. Rajesh Dahegaonkar participated in many National and International Seminars, Conferences, Symposiums and Workshops. He has published number of research papers in Botany.

Under his valuable guidance we believe and hope that this great institution is working towards the goals set by our great pioneer Late Barrister Rajabhau Khobragade. Today, the college is known as one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the region.
